Encouraging Participation in Carbon Neutrality Practices for Households, Businesses, and Schools
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 6th that it will operate a ‘Carbon Neutrality Week’ until the 10th to mark the 1st anniversary of the government’s ‘Carbon Neutrality Vision Declaration.’
This weekly campaign is operated with the main slogan ‘Before It’s Too Late’ to raise awareness of the climate crisis and to form a broad consensus among all citizens on the necessity of transitioning to a carbon-neutral society.
Accordingly, it plans to guide households, businesses, and schools on practical ways to practice carbon neutrality in daily life and encourage their participation.
In households: lowering heating temperature by 2℃, cutting off standby power of home appliances, using walking or bicycles for short distances; in businesses: reducing paper use when printing, cutting off standby power of electronic devices, using personal handkerchiefs instead of paper towels and hand dryers; in schools: turning off lights in empty classrooms, operating low-carbon meal plans, using public transportation or walking when commuting to and from school.
In addition, Hamyang-gun Office employees actively participate in the carbon-neutral lifestyle campaign through a digital carbon diet by ‘clearing unnecessary emails (deleting).’
The county operates programs such as the Carbon Point System to promote carbon neutrality in daily life, and since voluntary participation of residents is important, it plans to spread a social atmosphere of joining carbon neutrality through campaigns and promotions.
