[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] Jeong Bong-hoon (58), the new Commissioner of the Korea Coast Guard, began his official duties by visiting the waters near the Northern Limit Line (NLL) in the West Sea to inspect the crackdown on illegal Chinese fishing vessels.

On the afternoon of the 6th, Commissioner Jeong flew over the West Sea NLL by aircraft to observe the crackdown on illegal Chinese fishing vessels before attending the inauguration ceremony held at the Coast Guard Headquarters auditorium in Songdo International City, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon. In his inaugural speech, Commissioner Jeong said, "I feel a heavy responsibility as I take on the task of Commissioner at a crucial time when we must prepare for the future of the Coast Guard," adding, "I consider this an opportunity to dedicate myself one last time to the Coast Guard, with which I have spent over 30 years."

He also stated that he would strengthen citizen-friendly administrative services such as operating the Doctor Patrol Boat and survival swimming education, while prioritizing public safety and focusing on accident prevention and response.

Born in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, Commissioner Jeong graduated from Yeosu High School and the Department of Navigation at Korea Maritime University. He joined the Coast Guard in 1994 as part of the 42nd cadre candidate class.
