Assemblyman Yoon Jae-gap Achieves Success with Selection of 4 New Sites for 2022 Saeul New Deal 300 Project

Budget of 34.8 Billion Won Secured... Revitalizing the Underdeveloped Fishing Villages of Haenam, Wando, and Jindo

[Haenam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Yoon Jae-gap, a member of the National Assembly from the Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock, Food, and Maritime Affairs Committee (Democratic Party, Haenam·Wando·Jindo), announced on the 6th that he secured a new budget of 34.8 billion KRW for the 2022 Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' Fishing Village New Deal 300 project.

The Fishing Village New Deal 300 project is a fishing village environment improvement initiative running from 2019 to 2024. It selects 300 out of approximately 2,300 fishing villages and ports nationwide to modernize outdated infrastructure, discover region-specific projects, and promote fishing village regeneration and economic revitalization.

Among the 50 nationwide new project sites, four locations in Haenam, Wando, and Jindo were selected: Donghyeon Port in Songji-myeon, Haenam-gun (9.4 billion KRW), Imhado Port in Munnae-myeon, Haenam-gun (7.6 billion KRW), Mira Port in Nohwa-eup, Wando-gun (10.3 billion KRW), and Mosang Port in Gogeun-myeon, Jindo-gun (7.5 billion KRW), accounting for one-quarter of the 16 sites in Jeonnam Province.

The four sites in Haenam, Wando, and Jindo selected for the new project next year will receive a total budget of 34.8 billion KRW by 2024 for port facility maintenance, tourism and cultural facility development, and expansion of local income infrastructure.

Assemblyman Yoon Jae-gap stated, "The Fishing Village New Deal 300 project is an essential initiative that improves living conditions in fishing villages and ports and revitalizes fishing villages through job creation. I will strive to expand the project so that all fishing villages and ports nationwide, not only in Haenam, Wando, and Jindo, can benefit."
