Haenam-gun Selected for Two Sites in the 2022 Fishing Village New Deal 300 Public Contest Selected as a new target site for the Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project, Songji Donghyeon Port ⓒ Asia Economy

[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Two locations, Donghyeon Port in Songji and Imha Port in Munnae, Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, have been selected as new target sites for the 2023 Fishing Village New Deal 300 project, securing a total project budget of 17 billion KRW, including 11.9 billion KRW in national funding.


According to the county on the 6th, being selected for the Fishing Village New Deal project for the fourth consecutive year signals a positive outlook for revitalizing fishing villages and increasing residents' income.


The Fishing Village New Deal 300 project, a national policy initiative by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries implemented since 2019, modernizes essential infrastructure such as outdated piers and promotes specialized projects reflecting local characteristics to invigorate the regional economy. It is a community-based living SOC project with 70% of the project cost supported by national funds.


For the 2022 Fishing Village New Deal 300 project, 187 sites from 54 cities, counties, and districts nationwide applied, showing a high competition rate of 3.74 to 1. After written evaluations, on-site assessments, and comprehensive evaluations, 50 sites were finally selected as project locations.


Before the call for project sites, Haenam-gun held on-site forums, customized advisory meetings with experts, and visited related institutions, conducting thorough preparations that resulted in the selection of two sites.


The county plans to invest a total of 9.4 billion KRW in Donghyeon Port, Songji, to renovate port facilities and create a multipurpose community center and a port park. For Imha Port in Munnae, 7.6 billion KRW will be invested to build a new breakwater, establish the Imha Sea Gallery, and construct a welfare center.


County Governor Myung Hyun-gwan stated, "As a result of preparing for the competition to improve the fishing village environment of Haenam, surrounded by the sea on three sides, we have achieved the remarkable feat of being selected for the project four years in a row. We will lead efforts to improve the fishing village environment, which is the livelihood of residents, and modernize essential infrastructure to increase fishing productivity and income that local residents can feel."


Meanwhile, Haenam-gun secured a total project budget of 74.9 billion KRW with 2 sites and 15 billion KRW in 2019, 3 sites and 24.7 billion KRW in 2020, 2 sites and 18.2 billion KRW in 2021, and 2 sites and 17 billion KRW in 2022, increasing the total number of target sites to nine.
