[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate who launched the People Power Party's election campaign committee, expressed his ambition for centrist expansion, stating, "We must expand our support base to the center and rational progressives to make them key players in winning the presidential election."
On the 6th, Yoon held the party's central election campaign committee launch ceremony at KSPO Dome in Songpa-gu, Seoul, and said, "We need to rebuild the weakened local party committees and strengthen youth and women."
Starting his vision presentation that day, he repeatedly emphasized the necessity of regime change. Yoon said, "The Democratic Party government, which throws the beds of ordinary people onto cold streets and serves the selfish interests of corrupt vested powers, is a government for whom?" He added, "We must definitely judge this disgusting corrupt and incompetent regime. We must replace this tiresome and repulsive hypocritical regime."
He continued, "What we need most right now is 'unity,'" and said, "From now on, even if we differ in ninety-nine out of a hundred things, as long as we share the single will for regime change, we must all unite our strength."
He pledged to change the election campaign method for party innovation. Yoon said, "In the past, the party's election campaign committee was operated formally, but in reality, a small external camp was the center of the campaign," and added, "I will completely break this practice and run the election centered on the party's election campaign committee."
Yoon emphasized, "With party innovation, a stronger party organization, and a broader support base, let's run toward the door of victory."
He also reiterated the 'fairness' he had emphasized earlier. He said, "I will create a fair world where people are rewarded according to their work and treated according to their contributions," citing quality sustainable job creation, increased economic growth rate, and the establishment of a stronger welfare and social safety net system as the means to achieve this.
After the launch ceremony, Yoon met with reporters and said about the first pledge after the launch of the election campaign committee, "I already declared in August that the most important issue for the next government is the war against poverty caused by COVID-19," and added, "We will make the creation of quality sustainable jobs the highest national goal by integrating all economic, social, and welfare policies."
Regarding the potential conflict between Kim Jong-in, the general election campaign committee chairman, and Kim Byung-joon, the standing election campaign committee chairman, he said, "Even if they have slightly different thoughts, I am confident they will unite their strengths to create synergy and do well," explaining, "The expression of various opinions and reaching some consensus is an important process of democracy."
