North Korea: "The United States Is Not Even Qualified to Discuss Democracy" Defends China

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] On the 6th, North Korea criticized the United States' Democracy Summit, which is being promoted with the intention of containing China, saying, "The United States is a country that does not even have the basic qualifications to discuss democracy."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated this in an article titled "A Regressive Democracy Country Condemned by the World," posted on its website on the same day, referring to the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), headquartered in Sweden, which classified the United States as a "democracy in decline" in its report this year.

In this article, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs supported its ally China by saying, "Currently, many countries including China claim that the very act of the United States holding a global summit for democracy leaders is absurd and that this meeting is a typical undemocratic act."

The Ministry also conveyed the statement of a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, saying, "The United States judges which countries are democratic and which are undemocratic based on its own standards. This is an act of privatizing democracy and a betrayal of the democratic spirit."

It added, "All facts show that resentment against the United States, which is abusing democracy as a tool for interfering in the internal affairs of other countries, is increasing day by day," and argued, "The international community should see through the reactionary nature of the 'democracy' that the United States is loudly proclaiming and raise voices of anti-Americanism even more."

Earlier, the Democracy Summit, which the United States will hold virtually on the 9th and 10th, aims to unite democratic countries worldwide against authoritarian regimes such as China and Russia, a move that China has been strongly opposing day after day.
