Gwangju Seo-gu, Yangdong Market Operates 'Health Management Day'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Dae-seok) announced on the 6th that from last September until last month, it operated the ‘Yangdong Market Health Management Day’ for merchants and users at the Yangdong Market Cultural Center and the Yangdong Covered Arcade meeting room.

This program was operated to provide health management services such as regular basic health measurements and health consultations for merchants who are vulnerable to health management due to long working hours.

Nurses, nutritionists, exercise prescription specialists, and smoking cessation counselors provided various health promotion services to Yangdong Market merchants and users, including body composition tests, bone density tests, individual health consultations, mobile smoking cessation clinics, education on proper eating habits, and guidance on national cancer health screenings.

About 80 market merchants and residents participated in the program over two months.

Participants said, “I couldn’t leave the store to go to the hospital, so it was really good that the health center came and conducted the tests.”

Seo-gu plans to continue visiting Yangdong Market next year to provide various health education programs such as healthy lifestyle practices and chronic disease management for merchants’ health care.

A Seo-gu official said, “We will operate Yangdong Market Health Management Day every month to regularly provide health promotion services to market merchants who are struggling due to COVID-19, and do our best to create a vibrant and healthy market atmosphere.”
