Daegu City Secures National Funding for Parking Lots at 3rd Industrial Complex and Seodaegu Industrial Complex After 5 Years of Ssireum Efforts Daegu City will implement a smart parking lot construction project in the 3rd Industrial Complex and Seodaegu Industrial Complex.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Se-ryeong] The budget for the smart parking lot construction project, which Daegu City had been steadily requesting for five years, was finally passed by the National Assembly on the 3rd.

Daegu City persistently persuaded the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to secure the budget for the parking lot construction projects in the 3rd Industrial Complex and Seodaegu Industrial Complex.

These two industrial complexes saw factories move in during the 1960s and 1970s in general industrial areas, resulting in insufficient infrastructure such as roads, and since small-scale factories predominated, securing individual parking spaces within the factories was impossible.

Having been established over 40 years ago, the infrastructure became outdated, and although it was selected as a priority area for old industrial complex redevelopment in 2009, only road construction and expansion projects were carried out despite the large-scale project budget of 350.1 billion KRW.

Requests from business owners and workers within the industrial complexes for parking lot construction surged, and along with Busan City and Daejeon City, which had not received approval for parking lot projects in their old industrial complex regeneration projects, Daegu City continuously demanded national subsidies from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, but only negative responses were received.

After five years of struggle, the government approved the parking lot construction projects for the 3rd Industrial Complex and Seodaegu Industrial Complex and passed a budget bill to support 37.7 billion KRW in national funds over three years.

The city announced that it plans to create 12 parking lots within the industrial complexes as a project separate from the old industrial complex regeneration project, the first of its kind among local governments nationwide, investing a total of 75.5 billion KRW to secure 1,169 parking spaces.

For the 3rd Industrial Complex, five parking lots with a total area of 19,334㎡ are planned, and on the former site of Samyoung Elementary School, which relocated to Buk-gu in 2018, an Innovation Support Center, a complex cultural center, a rental-type knowledge industry center, and a social economy innovation town will be built, with a public parking lot constructed underground.

In the Seodaegu Industrial Complex, seven parking lots with a total area of 16,812㎡ will be established, and separately, 26.4 billion KRW will be invested to build a public parking lot underground at the Ihyeonsamgeori Seodaegu Station plaza.

The city plans to invest a total project cost of 75.5 billion KRW, including the secured national funds of 37.7 billion KRW, establish a parking lot construction execution plan in 2022, proceed with land acquisition and compensation procedures in 2023, and complete the parking lot construction by 2024.

Mayor Kwon Young-jin said, “The construction of parking lots, a long-standing wish of business owners and workers, will greatly improve logistics and working conditions within the industrial complexes,” adding, “Since this budget was secured with a persistent spirit, we will promptly proceed with the project to further strengthen the competitiveness of the industrial complexes.”
