"Let's Share the Joy of New Year with the Visually Impaired" Hanwha Distributes Braille Calendars for 21st Year

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Hanwha Group announced on the 6th that it will produce 40,000 Braille calendars for the visually impaired and distribute them free of charge to about 300 related organizations and individuals by the end of this month.

Hanwha Group Chairman Kim Seung-yeon started producing Braille calendars 21 years ago this year, inspired by a letter from a visually impaired person in 2000, suggesting "Let’s share the joy of welcoming the New Year with the visually impaired." Initially producing 5,000 copies, since 2009 they have produced and distributed 25,000 wall calendars and 25,000 desk calendars each year. Including next year’s calendar, the cumulative number of copies issued reaches 840,000.

The Braille calendar involves an additional process of printing Braille on top of a calendar printed with regular text, and to minimize damage afterward, most of the sorting, binding, and packaging are done manually. Hanwha Group produces the calendars together with Doseo Publishing Braille, a social enterprise specializing in Braille publishing and printing.
