[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Seon-gap) held the ‘Love Bread Piggy Bank Sharing Event and Outstanding Childcare Staff Commendation Ceremony’ on the 6th at the district office auditorium.
The ‘Love Bread Piggy Bank Sharing Event,’ organized by the Gwangjin-gu Public and Private Daycare Center Association and World Vision, was designed to help children develop habits of frugality and saving, and to learn the meaning of sharing by delivering the coins they collected themselves to neighbors in need.
This year, 80 children from 56 daycare centers including Gwangjin-gu public and private daycare centers participated, filling their bread piggy banks with their small hands over the course of a year.
The total amount donated on this day was about 18 million KRW, which will be sponsored to the child breakfast support project of the Community Chest of Korea and World Vision.
Additionally, despite the difficult conditions caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the district expressed gratitude and encouragement by awarding certificates of commendation to 15 daycare center directors and childcare teachers who have been working hard on the front lines to improve the quality of childcare.
Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I thank the Gwangjin-gu Public and Private Daycare Center Association, World Vision, childcare staff on the front lines, and the children who participate in this meaningful event every time,” adding, “I hope today’s event helps children understand the meaning and importance of sharing and serves as a foundation for practicing the joy of donation and volunteering even when they become adults.”
Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, presented plaques of appreciation to exemplary volunteers at 2 p.m. on the 6th at the Yangcheon Cultural Center Grand Theater in celebration of Volunteer Day.
Yangcheon-gu held the Volunteer Day commemorative event to express gratitude to volunteers and promote volunteer activities. At this event, local volunteers, representatives of volunteer-related organizations and institutions attended, reviewing activities from 2020 and awarding certificates and commendations to meritorious individuals.
In particular, volunteers were heroes who willingly lent a helping hand at various sites in the district, where assistance was desperately needed for the operation of COVID-19 vaccination prevention centers. There are four volunteers with over 10,000 hours of service and 42 volunteers with over 1,000 hours, demonstrating the tremendous passion of volunteers despite the threat of COVID-19 infection.
PBS Korea (CEO Hwang Jong-yeol) delivered kimchi for kimjang and hand cream worth 5 million KRW to Mapo-gu (District Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) at 3 p.m. on the 6th.
The donated items include 60 boxes of kimjang kimchi (7kg each) and 100 hand creams, which will be distributed to 60 vulnerable elderly living alone in the community through the Mapo Senior Care Integrated Center home service workers.
Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) held a plaque ceremony for the Age-Friendly City certification and a performance sharing meeting on the 3rd at the Yongsan Art Hall Cultural Lecture Room.
The district became a member city by obtaining the ‘International Age-Friendly City Certification’ from the World Health Organization (WHO) in February. Originally, the district planned to hold the certification proclamation ceremony at the annual Senior Citizens’ Day event in May, but the event was canceled due to COVID-19.
The event on the 3rd was attended by Yongsan-gu Mayor Seong Jang-hyun, Yongsan-gu Council Chairman Kim Jeong-jae, Vice Chairman Jang Jeong-ho, and 22 senior monitoring group members.
The group members were appointed on May 30 (11 men and 19 women). Their term is one year (until April 2022). This year, the monitoring group benchmarked best practices from other local governments and submitted five proposed projects to the district through subcommittee meetings.
The proposals submitted by the monitoring group include ▲Improvement plans for revitalizing senior centers ▲Development of a customized app for seniors ▲Community co-creation ▲Promotion of well-dying culture ▲Visiting smartphone usage education for seniors, totaling five projects.
Yongsan-gu Mayor Seong Jang-hyun said, “I thank the monitoring group members for their passionate activities,” adding, “We will actively review the proposals submitted to ensure that all residents can comfortably enjoy their daily lives according to their life cycle.”
Dobong-gu (District Mayor Lee Dong-jin) held the 22nd Volunteer Day commemorative ceremony on December 3rd at the Seoninbong Hall on the 2nd floor of Dobong-gu Office under the slogan ‘You Are the Flower Blooming Amid Difficulties.’
The Volunteer Day commemorative ceremony was organized to celebrate the International Volunteer Day (December 5th) established by the United Nations, to encourage the hard work of volunteers, and to award commendations to outstanding volunteers to boost morale and pride as volunteers.
The ceremony began with an interview video of Volunteer Award recipients, followed by the presentation of commendation certificates and plaques of appreciation to 15 individuals and 2 organizations, along with various programs such as a mixed vocal duet performance and healing craft experiences.
Lee Dong-jin, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “I express my gratitude to the volunteers who have quietly devoted themselves to helping neighbors and the community despite the difficult conditions caused by COVID-19. We will do our best to ensure that volunteers face no difficulties in their volunteer activities.”
