[Asia Economy (Cheonan) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] A case of poultry carcass reported in Cheonan has been confirmed as highly pathogenic (H5N1) avian influenza (AI), and additional measures to prevent further spread, including culling of poultry, are being implemented.
According to Chungnam Province and Cheonan City on the 6th, a detailed examination of poultry that died at a layer farm located in Yongjeong Complex, Pungse-myeon, Cheonan, the previous day confirmed infection with highly pathogenic AI.
Following the confirmation of highly pathogenic AI, the province preemptively culled approximately 230,000 poultry within a 500m radius around the infected farm.
Additionally, quarantine zones of 3km and 10km have been established to control movement within these areas, and further quarantine measures are being promoted to prevent additional spread.
Im Seung-beom, head of the Animal Quarantine and Hygiene Division of the province, stated, "Highly pathogenic AI occurred four times each in Chungbuk and Jeonnam in the second half of this year, and has now been additionally confirmed in Chungnam. The province will do its utmost to prevent further spread and to achieve early termination of the highly pathogenic AI."
