Police Controversy Over Multiple Shots Fired at Young Man Who Collapsed After Being Shot

According to reports, a Palestinian youth named Salfit (25) suddenly injured an ultra-Orthodox Jew, who also appeared to be in his 20s, with a knife and then tried to attack nearby police officers, resulting in multiple gunshot wounds.

The issue is that Israeli police fired their weapons at Salfit at least two more times after he was already down from the gunshots. The police also blocked emergency medical personnel from approaching Salfit to provide treatment while still armed.

This scene was widely circulated in a video, leading to controversy over the Israeli police's excessive response. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett defended the police, stating they acted justifiably against a terrorist attempting to kill Israeli citizens, while Palestinian officials condemned the killing of the already wounded and lying youth as a "war crime."

Israeli police have previously faced criticism for "abuse of authority," including shooting Palestinians despite having the option to arrest them.

Earlier, on the 21st of last month, a Hamas operative opened fire in the Old City, killing one person and injuring three others before being shot dead by Israeli police officers.

In the Old City of East Jerusalem, where the holy site called the "Temple Mount" by Jews and the "Noble Sanctuary" by Muslims is located, conflicts and clashes between Palestinian residents and Israeli police occur continuously.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip?holy sites for Islam, Judaism, and Christianity?following the 1967 Six-Day War, but the international community does not recognize Israel's territorial legitimacy.
