[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Cases of adolescents hospitalized due to side effects after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine are rapidly increasing in Vietnam.


On the 3rd (local time), according to local media VN Express, the Disease Control Center (CDC) of Thanh Hoa Province in central Vietnam reported that over 120 adolescents aged 15 to 17 who received the Pfizer vaccine were hospitalized due to side effects.


The side effects observed in the adolescents included vomiting, high fever, and difficulty breathing.


Accordingly, local health authorities plan to recall the currently used vaccines and bring in new supplies to resume vaccinations.


The recalled vaccines will be stored in freezing facilities and reused for adult vaccinations in the future.


Meanwhile, so far in Vietnam, three adolescents have died due to vaccine side effects. A 12-year-old boy living in southern Binh Phuoc Province died one day after receiving the Pfizer vaccine on the 29th of last month, and a female middle school student living in Hanoi also died the day after suffering from a high fever following the Pfizer vaccine on the 27th of last month.


Additionally, a 16-year-old male student living in northern Bac Giang Province showed symptoms of anaphylactic shock after receiving the Pfizer vaccine on the 24th of last month, was hospitalized, but ultimately died four days later.
