COVID-19: 3,180 New Cases Nationwide by 6 PM... [Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] As of 6 PM on the 3rd, the number of new COVID-19 cases nationwide exceeded 3,000, marking the highest count recorded at the same time.


According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, from midnight to 6 PM on this day, a total of 3,180 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported across 17 cities and provinces nationwide. This is 460 more than the previous highest count of 2,720 cases recorded the day before.


Since there is still time until midnight when the tally closes, the number of new confirmed cases announced at 0 AM on the 4th is expected to increase further.


Looking at the regions where cases were confirmed on this day, the metropolitan area accounted for 2,284 cases (71.8%), and non-metropolitan areas accounted for 896 cases (28.2%).


By city and province, the numbers are: Gyeonggi 1,050, Seoul 986, Incheon 248, Busan 194, Chungnam 114, Gyeongnam 103, Gyeongbuk 87, Daegu 84, Daejeon and Gangwon each 70, Chungbuk 48, Jeonnam 37, Gwangju 31, Jeonbuk 29, Jeju 21, Ulsan 5, and Sejong 3.


All 17 cities and provinces reported confirmed cases. The number of confirmed cases in Gyeonggi Province is also the highest recorded at the same time.


The fourth domestic wave of COVID-19, which began in early July, has continued for nearly five months.


In the recent one week (November 27 to December 3), the daily new confirmed cases were 4,067 → 3,925 → 3,308 → 3,032 → 5,123 → 5,265 → 4,944, averaging about 4,238 cases per day. The average daily number of locally transmitted cases is about 4,209.
