Busan City-Waterloo University-Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute Sign Research Partnership Agreement

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Trainee Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] On the 3rd, Busan City signed a business agreement for 'Busan City-Waterloo University-Korea Electric Research Institute Research Partnership' with the University of Waterloo in Canada and the Korea Electric Research Institute.

The agreement involves Busan City, the University of Waterloo, and the Korea Electric Research Institute conducting joint research in the field of artificial intelligence and adopting the Waterloo-style industry-academia cooperation system.

The agreement aims to expand international cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence and cultivate digital industry professionals needed in the industrial field.

The main contents include ▲ collaboration on research and development (R&D) with companies in the Busan area ▲ joint research on common interests in artificial intelligence and exchange of research document information ▲ lectures on joint research projects, exchange of visiting researchers, educational workshops and discussions ▲ mutual active cooperation in establishing a Waterloo-style industry-academia cooperation system for workforce training based on on-site corporate internships.

The University of Waterloo is a Canadian public comprehensive university established in 1957. Since its founding, the university has introduced industry-academia cooperation programs to produce workforce needed in the field.

Park Hyung-jun, Mayor of Busan, said, “With the introduction of the Busan-type industry-academia cooperation system (Co-op), we will focus on Busan-style digital transformation and nurturing future talents of Busan.”
