[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Following the mainland, a new COVID-19 variant Omicron case has been confirmed in Hawaii, USA.
According to major foreign media, Hawaii's health authorities announced on the 2nd (local time) that one Omicron case was confirmed.
The patient had previously been infected with COVID-19 but was not vaccinated. In other words, this is not a breakthrough infection case but a reinfection case.
Hawaii health authorities stated that it is a "locally transmitted case with no history of overseas travel."
With this, Hawaii became the fifth state in the US where Omicron infections have been confirmed. The states are California, Minnesota, Colorado, New York, and Hawaii. The total confirmed cases have increased to nine.
Foreign media reported, "As genetic sequencing of COVID-19 positive cases is underway, more Omicron infections are expected to be confirmed in the future."
