[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Small and Medium Venture Business Administration (Commissioner Jang Daegyo) visited Hampyeong Cheonji Traditional Market located in Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do on the 2nd to inspect the quarantine situation to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Recently, Jeollanam-do has been experiencing more than 30 confirmed COVID-19 cases per day on average. With the ‘Omicron’ variant, designated as a variant of concern by the WHO, causing infections in South Africa, the UK, Germany, and other countries, there are growing concerns worldwide about the possibility of a fifth pandemic.

Commissioner Jang visited the traditional market to check the quarantine situation, which could become neglected due to the phased recovery of daily life, including the placement of hand sanitizers at major transit points and market entrances, mask-wearing by merchants and customers, and the designation of quarantine management personnel. He also comforted the merchants who are going through difficult times.

In addition, to prevent fires in traditional markets during the winter season, he conducted an additional inspection of firefighting equipment such as fire hydrants and fire alarm facilities, urging thorough management to prevent traditional market fires that could lead to major disasters.

Commissioner Jang stated, “Since traditional markets are places used by many people, preventing variant viruses through basic quarantine rules is the top priority.” He also urged the merchants’ association to carefully manage quarantine inspections in cooperation with the government and local governments.

He added, “We will continue to maintain the phased recovery of daily life and will spare no support together with local governments and related organizations to revitalize the market.”
