[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Hong Kong has added South Korea to the list of countries banned from entry in response to the spread of the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron.


On the 3rd, the Hong Kong government announced that it will ban entry from five countries where the Omicron variant has been confirmed?South Korea, Finland, Saudi Arabia, Norway, and Ghana?starting from midnight on the 5th.


The entry ban applies to non-residents of Hong Kong.


Hong Kong residents who have stayed in the affected countries must complete vaccination to board flights to Hong Kong and must quarantine for 21 days in government-designated facilities and hotels upon arrival.


Four cases of Omicron variant infections have been confirmed in Hong Kong.


Following the confirmation of the fourth case in an airport transit passenger, Hong Kong has also strengthened transit regulations.


Starting from the 8th, passengers transiting through Hong Kong must submit a negative PCR test certificate obtained within 72 hours.
