[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) announced on the 3rd that it demonstrated six 'Wi-Fi 6E' pilot projects around Jeju Island.
According to MSIT, Wi-Fi 6E, which uses the 6 GHz band (5925?7125 MHz), is up to five times faster than the existing 'Wi-Fi 6' and can accommodate more than 1.5 times the number of simultaneous connections.
On the day, MSIT demonstrated 8K VR real-time streaming service using Wi-Fi 6E at the Jeju Hallasan Arboretum VR (Virtual Reality) Theme Park.
Then, at the indoor gymnasium of Jeju Namnyeong High School, attendees watched the game simultaneously on about 100 devices by connecting a relay camera and a Wi-Fi 6E router.
MSIT also showcased a contactless ordering service at the About Halladae branch coffee shop, and continued with Wi-Fi 6E roaming service at Jeju Airport, UHD broadcast reception via Wi-Fi 6E, and performance comparison demonstrations by Wi-Fi generation.
Choi Woo-hyuk, Director of the Radio Policy Bureau at MSIT, said, "Many countries overseas are referring to our policy to supply the 6 GHz band as Wi-Fi 6E," adding, "This demonstration will also serve as a good model case."
