Jeongeup-si, Comprehensive Maintenance of Utility Poles and Communication Lines over 1.1km Section

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk has enhanced the street environment as the underground utility project in the Chilbo-myeon area has been completed.

The city announced on the 2nd that it held a completion ceremony after finishing the underground utility project, which involved burying utility poles, power lines, and communication lines that spoiled the village landscape around the Chilbo-myeon terminal, as well as a road maintenance project to improve road facilities.

About 50 people attended the completion ceremony, including Mayor Yoo Jin-seop, Jeongeup City Council Chairman Jo Sang-jung, city council members, heads of related organizations, and village residents.

Chilbo-myeon is an area scattered with historical and cultural assets such as Museong Seowon, where tangled utility poles and communication poles resembling a spider web not only spoil the village landscape but also pose safety risks during severe weather, causing ongoing inconvenience.

Accordingly, to improve the village environment, the city carried out a comprehensive maintenance of various utility lines that impaired aesthetics, utility poles that caused traffic inconvenience, as well as sewage, roads, and facilities over eight months starting in March.

This maintenance project covered a 1.1 km section from the Chilbo-myeon health center to the Chilbo terminal, with a total project cost of 4.7 billion KRW.

To ensure smooth project progress, the city signed a business agreement with KEPCO, KT, and shared communication companies, and made special efforts through coordination meetings with related organizations to adjust schedules and discuss progress.

With the completion of this project, it is expected to provide a pleasant landscape in the Chilbo-myeon area and improve flood damage caused by heavy rain through the long-awaited stormwater pipe maintenance project for Chilbo-myeon residents.

Mayor Yoo Jin-seop said, “I thank the nearby stores and residents for their patience and understanding during the construction period,” and added, “I hope this project will serve as a stepping stone for the commercial district, which has been stagnant due to COVID-19, to regain vitality.”
