Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju 'Excellent Use of Video Conferencing by Public Officials' Recognized as Outstanding Institution for 2 Consecutive Years

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Samho) announced on the 2nd that it was selected as an excellent institution for two consecutive years in the 2021 Video Conference Utilization Best Practice Contest hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

In this contest, 33 institutions including central administrative agencies, local governments, and public institutions participated, and through evaluation, three institutions including Gwangsan-gu were selected as excellent case institutions.

Last year, during the COVID-19 situation, Gwangsan-gu actively utilized Naraeum PC video conferencing and was selected as an excellent institution for promoting the use of a smart work environment. This year, it received the Minister of the Interior and Safety’s commendation in the field of video conference utilization.

Based on this year’s slogan, “From Contact to Connection,” efforts were made to move beyond simple PC video conference broadcasting to improve online and offline participation and to build infrastructure and improve services for expanding video platforms.

Digital video systems were established in three facilities within the district office building (2nd floor Situation Room, 6th floor Computer Training Room, 7th floor Yunsangwon Hall), and videos of meetings, training, and events held at the district office were provided through various means linked with PC video conferencing, “Gwangsan LIVE,” and internal TV broadcasting.

In particular, “Gwangsan LIVE” established internal and external self-hosted streaming servers, allowing both employees and citizens to use it on computers or mobile phones without separate authentication, establishing itself as a digital communication medium for delivering district administration.

Additionally, achievements such as resolving meeting room space shortages through linkage between video conferencing and portable video devices, and strengthening communication between online and on-site through large display split-screen output were recognized, granting the honor of being selected as an excellent institution for two consecutive years.

A Gwangsan-gu official said, “In preparation for ‘With Corona,’ we will continue to actively utilize video conferencing as a place for non-face-to-face communication and collaboration by improving the quality of real-time video content through various attempts and improvements.”
