Korean National Police University Holds Academic Seminar on 'Interdisciplinary Convergent Response Strategies for Stalking Crimes'


[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The Korean National Police University held an academic seminar on the 2nd under the theme "Interdisciplinary Convergent Response Directions to Stalking Crimes" in line with the enforcement of the Stalking Punishment Act.


This seminar was organized to discuss the application and improvement measures of the Stalking Punishment Act, which came into effect on October 21, with experts in law and psychology, and to collect and exchange diverse opinions from both the field and academia.


The seminar featured in-depth discussions on the concepts of stalking acts and crimes under the Stalking Punishment Act, the concepts and requirements of emergency and provisional measures, and considerations for the operation and improvement of the Stalking Punishment Act. It also examined the stalking regulation legislation and police responses in major foreign countries, as well as implications for the operation of the system in Korea.


Lee Cheol-gu, President of the Korean National Police University, said, "Through this seminar, we expect to derive meaningful standards for the interpretation and application of the Stalking Punishment Act in its early stages of enforcement, and to lay the foundation for improving this law in a better direction in the future."
