[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) affiliated Personal Information Legal Interpretation Support Center announced on the 2nd that it has published the "Case-Centered Practical Textbook on Personal Information Protection Legal Interpretation" to enhance the ability of public institution employees to interpret the Personal Information Protection Act.
The PIPC structured the textbook focusing on the processing stages according to the personal information lifecycle to help public institution officials easily understand the personal information protection laws. It clarifies major concepts related to personal information frequently used in practice by comparing them with other concepts, and provides related key cases, precedents, and commission decisions for reference in work. Additionally, it includes personal information-related forms such as consent forms for the collection and use of personal information to enable immediate practical use.
With the publication of this textbook, the PIPC plans to support public institutions in enhancing their employees' personal information protection capabilities and taking the lead in strengthening personal information protection by utilizing the textbook. To this end, printed copies were distributed to 243 local governments and posted on the PIPC website and the Personal Information Protection Portal so that each public institution can make use of them.
Park Yeon-byeong, Planning and Coordination Officer of the PIPC, stated, "This year marks the 10th anniversary of the enforcement of the Personal Information Protection Act, and with the digital transformation and the normalization of non-face-to-face interactions due to COVID-19, public awareness of the importance of personal information protection has increased. We will provide multifaceted support so that public institutions can take the lead in protecting personal information in a way that meets the public’s expectations and develop the capabilities to do so."
