Yoon Pal-ju, Inaugural CEO, "Will Accelerate the Era of Fully Autonomous Driving"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Autonomous driving specialist company 'HL Klemove' officially launched on the 2nd and declared that it will accelerate the era of full autonomous driving.
On the day of the launch, President Yoon Pal-ju said in his inaugural speech, "HL Klemove's autonomous driving perception and judgment technology combined with Mando's autonomous driving control and electric vehicle (EV) solution technology have created differentiated autonomous driving technology know-how," adding, "We will advance the era of full autonomous driving for the public's 'safest mobility'." HL Klemove was integrated with Mando Mobility Solutions (MMS), which spun off from Mando, and appointed Yoon Pal-ju as its first CEO.
Based on industry experience securing over 2,000 autonomous driving technology patents and supplying more than 20 million ADAS products to various customers, HL Klemove explained that it is focusing on developing advanced autonomous driving products to prepare for its second growth phase. HL Klemove plans to complete commercialization of core full autonomous driving products such as Lidar, 4D imaging radar, high-resolution cameras, in-cabin passenger detection sensors, and high-performance autonomous driving integrated controllers by 2025, and aims to achieve aggressive domestic and international business expansion with sales of 1.2 trillion KRW this year, 2.4 trillion KRW in 2026, and 4 trillion KRW by 2030.
In particular, HL Klemove has secured patents for non-fixed Lidar and completed preliminary development. To lead the global Lidar market in the future, it has also started developing high-resolution fixed Lidar with competitiveness in price, packaging, and durability. The fixed Lidar development is targeted for commercialization in 2025 in collaboration with leading domestic and international startups.
The 4D imaging radar is an advanced high-resolution sensor that processes four-dimensional (distance, speed, angle, height) point cloud spatial images through deep learning to precisely recognize the surrounding environment. Based on high-performance antenna technology for ultra-long-range detection over 300 meters and channel expansion technology for ultra-precise resolution implementation, HL Klemove is accelerating the development of 4D imaging radar with a goal of 2024.
HL Klemove's advanced sensing products such as Lidar and 4D imaging radar are expected to be utilized not only in autonomous driving but also in smart cities and robotics fields. The Level 3 autonomous driving high-performance autonomous driving controller (ADCU) will be launched next year.
Moreover, HL Klemove plans to present the safest full autonomous driving solution by integrating autonomous driving perception and judgment technology with Mando's chassis control technology. Especially, the full autonomous driving solution 'Model KM' based on an electric vehicle platform, developed through autonomous driving technology and experience, is expected to meet the diverse mobility design needs of both domestic automakers and global customers, HL Klemove said.
HL Klemove is also focusing on expanding its presence in the North American market. For North American customers demanding Level 3 or higher autonomous driving, it is proposing high-performance autonomous driving solutions based on strategic collaborations with global application processor·software companies. Localization of production in North America is also underway, with construction of a local production base starting next year.
Additionally, HL Klemove plans to expand the Chinese market by jointly marketing with Mando’s advanced electronic control chassis products, which have been successful in China. To this end, it will expand production lines centered on its Suzhou factory in China next year and secure more than 100 local research and development (R&D) personnel. In the early-stage autonomous driving market of India, HL Klemove plans to strengthen research personnel at its autonomous driving and electronic integration research center in Bangalore to develop locally customized Level 2+ products and apply them first to local automakers, aiming to capture the market through localization strategies.
Meanwhile, HL Klemove operates a global R&D center in Pangyo, Gyeonggi Province, and autonomous driving parts production bases and R&D centers in Songdo, Incheon; Suzhou, China; and Chennai and Bangalore, India. Currently, it has about 1,800 domestic and overseas employees and will move into the HL Klemove Pangyo headquarters building in September next year.
