[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Korea Center is preparing to enter the metaverse business. The plan is to showcase Korea Center's business on the metaverse platform in partnership with The Sandbox.
According to the financial investment industry on the 2nd, Korea Center recently met with Sebastien Borget, CEO of The Sandbox, a blockchain-based metaverse platform company, and discussed business cooperation.
The two companies will build an e-commerce space within The Sandbox metaverse platform. Korea Center is known to plan to exhibit and sell solutions, products, and client companies' products there. Along with this, they plan to enable purchases to be made on mobile and PC through integration with the metaverse platform as well as web browsers when payments occur.
The Sandbox is a company that provides the metaverse platform "The Sandbox," based on blockchain and non-fungible token (NFT) technology. In the Series B investment held on the 2nd of last month, companies such as SoftBank, LG Technology Ventures, Samsung Next, Com2uS, Liberty City Ventures, and Galaxy Interactive participated. The investment amount was 110 billion KRW.
They have signed partnerships to implement more than 165 brands' characters such as Pororo, K-League, Snoop Dogg, The Walking Dead, Smurfs, Care Bears, Atari, and CryptoKitties in 3D within the metaverse. Famous companies like Zepeto, Binance, CoinMarketCap, CyberKongz, and South China Morning Post own land (LAND) within The Sandbox metaverse. The alpha season was released from the 29th of last month.
Korea Center is a platform company that provides solutions necessary for e-commerce business. It owns 'Malltail,' the No.1 overseas direct purchase platform, and 'MakeShop,' the No.1 paid shopping mall solution. From global procurement and supply to shopping mall construction and operation, multi-market integrated management, advertising and marketing, to global logistics and sales support based on big data, it provides optimal services to meet e-commerce business demands. Recently, it acquired management rights of Danawa, an e-commerce company focusing on price comparison platforms and the assembled PC open market ShopDanawa.
If Korea Center enters the metaverse platform through The Sandbox, it will be the first in the same industry. However, a company official was reserved about cooperation with The Sandbox, saying, "We cannot confirm related details."
