[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The government is expanding cooperation with the United States, a leading country in the fields of quantum technology, autonomous vehicles, and artificial intelligence (AI), regarding the standardization of advanced technologies.

The National Institute of Technology and Standards (NITS) under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy signed an implementation plan for a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) on the 2nd at the JW Marriott Seoul Hotel to launch the "Korea-US Standard Cooperation Dialogue" and held the first dialogue session.

Both sides agreed to develop their existing standard cooperation relationship into a strategic standard cooperation partnership in the field of advanced technologies. Experts in quantum technology, autonomous vehicles, artificial intelligence, and semiconductors participated in the subsequent "Korea-US Standard Forum" to exchange opinions.

The keynote speeches were delivered by Mary Saunders, Vice President of ANSI, and Professor Yeom Heung-yeol of Soonchunhyang University. Vice President Saunders introduced the United States' standardization strategy and emphasized the necessity of Korea-US cooperation in the field of standardization, while Professor Yeom presented on the standardization promotion strategy for cybersecurity certification of autonomous vehicles.

ANSI Chairman Joe Bhatia stated, "The launch of the Korea-US Standard Cooperation Dialogue holds great significance for technological and trade cooperation between the two countries," adding, "I hope that continuous Korea-US standard cooperation will create opportunities to promote the growth and development of industries in both countries."

Lee Sang-hoon, Director of NITS, said, "We will further strengthen the mutual cooperation system for standardization by expanding standard cooperation with the United States not only in digital technologies but also in areas related to climate change response."
