Government Omicron Task Force Discusses Strengthening Entry Quarantine Measures... Results for Suspected Cases to be Announced at 9 PM

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] On the 1st, the government held a task force (TF) meeting to respond to the new COVID-19 variant, the Omicron variant, and discussed measures to strengthen quarantine for incoming travelers.


The government held a closed and non-face-to-face (video conference) inter-ministerial TF meeting to respond to the Omicron variant, chaired by Jeong Eun-kyeong, Director of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, starting at 3 p.m. that day.


Going forward, the TF plans to discuss measures to strengthen management of overseas inflow such as quarantine, measures to enhance monitoring of domestic occurrence and spread, measures to strengthen epidemiological investigations and quarantine responses upon domestic inflow, and measures to strengthen patient management.


The TF will also continue to hold overseas risk assessment meetings in response to the spread of the Omicron variant.


Regarding the four suspected cases of Omicron variant infection detected domestically for the first time the previous day, the government is conducting confirmatory tests for Omicron variant infection and epidemiological investigations.


Meanwhile, the government plans to announce the test results of the suspected Omicron variant infection cases and the contents of the TF meeting as early as after 9 p.m. that day.
