[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Justice Party strongly criticized Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, for his remarks on abolishing the 52-hour workweek, saying, "The idea of treating people as working machines to be exploited is something that could only have been conceived during the era of developmental dictatorship regimes."
On the 1st, Jung Ho-jin, spokesperson for the Justice Party's presidential campaign committee, said in a briefing, "Candidate Yoon previously said that abandoning nuclear power would lead to ruin, and now he has mentioned abolishing the minimum wage and the 52-hour workweek, calling these systems unrealistic and pledging to eliminate them."
Spokesperson Jung pointed out, "Since he advocated for a grueling 120-hour workweek, the abolition of the 52-hour workweek is not surprising," adding, "However, I am curious about how he has lived to make such unrealistic claims so recklessly."
He continued, "If he wants to become the highest national leader, he must first face the shameful stigma of having the longest working hours in the OECD and being a country of death from overwork," emphasizing, "The minimum wage system, which has been in place since 1988, guarantees the minimum income necessary for a humane life."
He stated, "The era of exploiting people like working machines ended long ago," and stressed, "Working citizens now aspire to their rightful entitlement as members of advanced economies, namely the introduction of a four-day workweek." He added, "Rather than abolishing the 52-hour workweek by calling it unrealistic, what Candidate Yoon urgently needs is socialization, not running for president."
Spokesperson Jung urged voters, "This election is not just about regime change but political and generational change," and said, "Please open the era of the four-day workweek so that absurd claims like abolishing the 52-hour workweek have no place to stand."
