Chief Song stated in a press release that day, "I take full responsibility for the inadequate response at the Incheon Nonhyeon Police Station and will step down from my position as Chief of Incheon Police Agency and retire from the police."
He added, "I hope this incident serves as a reminder to the Incheon police of the heavy and serious duty they have to protect citizens' safety, and that they do their utmost to protect the public."
Furthermore, Chief Song said, "However, until the personnel consultation with the Incheon Autonomous Police Committee and the appointment process for the successor chief are completed, I will diligently perform my duties as chief without any gaps," and "I once again apologize to the victims of this weapon rampage incident and wish for the speedy recovery of the victim who is still hospitalized."
