Over 2 Million Won Worth of Aid Delivered to About 50 Elderly Living Alone in Modong-myeon

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Saetbyeol Daycare Center and Saenara Daycare Center in Sangju-si, Gyeongbuk, gifted winter vests worth about 2 million won to over 50 elderly living alone on the 30th.

Kim Jihyun, a firefighter and the chairman of the operating committee for both daycare centers, heard in October from an acquaintance involved in volunteer work that there are many elderly living alone in Modong-myeon.

Firefighter Kim suggested holding a bazaar at Saetbyeol Daycare Center and Saenara Daycare Center, where her two children attended, to raise funds and deliver them.

Both daycare centers readily agreed and informed the children about the purpose of the bazaar, asking them to bring items they wanted to donate.

Donations collected by children and parents, including clothes, stationery, and toys, piled up, and the bazaar was a "success."

With the funds raised, "Love Vests" were purchased to be given to elderly living alone in Modong-myeon, and the names of the children were engraved on the packaging. Chairman Kim also handed over 500,000 won in cash along with the vests.

Firefighter Kim said, "I wanted to help even a little, and I thought it would also have an educational effect by teaching children how to save and help neighbors."

The elderly who received the vests said in unison, "We haven't done anything, but we are grateful to receive such a gift," and "Thanks to the children's sincerity, we will be able to spend this winter warmer."
