[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Chris Cuomo, the flagship anchor of the US CNN network, has been fired from the broadcast. This came after it was revealed that he had actively intervened in managing the sexual harassment scandal involving his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

On the 30th (local time), a CNN spokesperson announced, "Chris has been suspended indefinitely until further evaluation is completed."

This decision was made after the New York State prosecutor's investigation documents, released the previous day, revealed Chris's active involvement in the governor's sexual harassment response meetings.

CNN had previously defended Chris but ultimately decided to dismiss him as public criticism intensified.

The CNN spokesperson explained, "Initially, Chris's actions were considered a violation of regulations," but also added, "At the same time, we respected his unique position and understood that he had to prioritize family over work."

The spokesperson further explained the change in stance, saying, "However, based on the prosecutor's documents, Chris's involvement was greater than we had known."

Chris did not step down from his anchor position even after his brother resigned as governor in August due to the sexual harassment scandal, maintaining the stance that he was "a brother, not a counselor."

Chris joined CNN in 2013 and has been hosting his flagship current affairs program titled 'Cuomo Prime Time' under his own name.

Before the sexual harassment scandal involving his brother surfaced, he even featured him on the broadcast to highlight a friendly image and created opportunities to promote COVID-19 measures.

However, as female aides of the governor came forward one after another to expose sexual harassment, and it was revealed that Chris was involved in managing the situation, warning signs emerged within CNN in May.

At that time, CNN considered Chris's actions "inappropriate," but it is known that no disciplinary action was taken.
