Yeongjinwi Online Screening Integrated Computer Network Pilot Operation

Focusing on Improving Data Accuracy and Speed by Enhancing Data Transmission Methods

Yeongjinwi Online Screening Integrated Computer Network Pilot Operation

The Korean Film Council will pilot the integrated online screening platform system starting from the 1st. This system electronically aggregates and provides statistical information on the digital online film market. Previously, data was compiled manually using Excel. It consolidated the number of online film views from platform operators such as KT, SK Broadband, LG Uplus, and Homechoice, presenting the data on a weekly and monthly basis. Last October, the Korean Film Council signed a business agreement with platform operators to electronically link data. The focus was on improving the accuracy and speed of information by enhancing the data transmission method. An official stated, "For the time being, we plan to verify stability by running manual aggregation and electronic linkage methods in parallel."

Previously, the online screening box office required separate queries for online film view counts and theatrical film audience numbers. Now, combined data can be viewed at once. Clicking on a film also allows simultaneous access to related information. An official said, "By the second quarter of next year, when the system is fully operational, the range of films available for query will expand and data updates will become faster." They added, "While providing a new indicator for online film success, we also plan to secure reliable data for film planning and investment."
