Husband Who Quit Smoking 8 Years Ago Dies of Nicotine Addiction... Misutgaru Given by Wife Was the Cause

[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] A woman in her 30s has been brought to trial for causing the death of her non-smoking husband by giving him misutgaru mixed with nicotine solution, resulting in 'nicotine poisoning.'

The Suwon District Prosecutors' Office announced on the 30th that Ms. A (37) was arrested and indicted on charges of murder.

Ms. A reported to 112 at around 7:23 a.m. on May 27, when her husband Mr. B (46) collapsed at home, and Mr. B died while being transported to the hospital.

The police conducted an autopsy to analyze the cause of Mr. B's death and were informed that the cause was 'nicotine poisoning.'

However, the police confirmed that Mr. B had not smoked for eight years and determined that it was not a simple accidental death, upgrading the case to a serious crime and proceeding with an investigation.

Subsequently, the police secured a phone call record in which Mr. B, after drinking misutgaru mixed with honey prepared by Ms. A on May 26, the day before his death, complained of stomach pain at lunchtime and called Ms. A asking, "Could it be that the misutgaru had spoiled honey in it?" They also confirmed that Ms. A had purchased nicotine solution mixed with tar from an electronic cigarette store near their home a few days before Mr. B's death.

The police judged that Ms. A committed murder by mixing nicotine solution exceeding the lethal dose of 3.7 mg into the misutgaru and making Mr. B drink it, and she was sent to the prosecution under arrest on the 10th.

During the police investigation, Ms. A denied the charges, stating, "My husband used to smoke, and it was because of the expired honey."

The investigative authorities are estimating that the crime was committed for economic reasons based on testimonies from acquaintances that "the couple often argued about money" and the fact that Ms. A was insured under Mr. B's name for over 100 million won.
