Strong Response to Gangdong-gu Goheung Agricultural and Marine Specialty Products Direct Market

Participation of 27 Local Businesses and Farms, Sales Exceeding 100 Million Won

[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] Jeonnam Goheung-gun (Governor Song Gwi-geun) announced on the 30th that the "Goheung Agricultural and Marine Specialty Products Direct Market," held for the first time in Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) from the 24th to the 26th, was successfully completed.

This direct market was held for the first time since Goheung-gun and Seoul Gangdong-gu established a sisterhood relationship in 2021. Twenty-seven companies and farms from Goheung-gun participated, selling about 100 items such as yuzu, pomegranate, and seafood at prices 20-30% cheaper than the market price, achieving sales of over 100 million won.

The two local governments had planned to hold the direct market immediately after establishing the sisterhood in November last year, but it was postponed repeatedly due to COVID-19. It was held for the first time this time following the phased recovery to normal life policy.

A Gangdong-gu resident who purchased goods that day said, "Goheung was unfamiliar to me until I first learned about it through the Nuriho launch, but after coming here today, I found the agricultural products fresh and good, so I bought a lot," adding, "I plan to purchase directly even if there is no direct market in the future."

A farmer who participated in the direct market said with a smile, "It was my first time in Gangdong-gu, and I was worried that sales might be low, but despite the cold weather, many people came, so I was able to achieve high sales."

This direct market, held consecutively following the one in Nowon-gu two weeks ago to help farms struggling due to COVID-19, attracted many Gangdong-gu residents to the site, resulting in high sales for Goheung farms.

A Goheung-gun official said, "We are pleased that the Gangdong-gu direct market and the previous Nowon-gu market received great responses consecutively," adding, "We will continue to activate direct markets in sister cities and other large cities to contribute to increasing residents' income."
