[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Seo Im-seong, a member of the Gwangju Nam-gu Council, announced on the 30th during the 2nd plenary session that the ‘Partial Amendment to the Ordinance on Prevention of Child Abuse and Protection of Abused Children in Nam-gu’ has been passed.
The ordinance newly establishes regulations to provide protection and treatment parenting services to abused children and to install a facility called the ‘Shelter for Abused Children’ to support their return to their original families.
It also stipulates that upon receiving reports of abused children, on-site investigations and emergency protection must be conducted, and provides a basis for abused children to receive living support, counseling, and psychological treatment with the assistance of child abuse dedicated public officials and child protection specialized agencies.
Councilor Seo stated, “Amid the recent consecutive occurrences of child abuse cases and their emergence as a serious social issue, this amendment aims to create an environment where abused children can be safely protected and grow up healthily.”
He added, “Compared to other welfare areas, child protection policies have relatively lacked interest and support, so I hope this ordinance will establish a concrete child protection system.”
