[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] The Saemaeul Women's Association of Mongtan-myeon, Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do (President Im Soon-hee) recently held a resolution rally at the Mongtan-myeon Office parking lot to firmly oppose the relocation of the Gwangju Combat Airfield to Muan.

This resolution was initiated to condemn the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's (MOLIT) overreach following the announcement of the 6th Comprehensive Airport Development Plan on September 24, which linked the relocation of Gwangju Civil Airport with the relocation of the military airport.

The Saemaeul Women's Association of Mongtan-myeon expressed strong opposition, stating that relocating the military airport would destroy the production base of farmers and fishermen and threaten the livelihoods of residents.

Im Soon-hee, president of the Saemaeul Women's Association, said, “Mongtan-myeon has many livestock farms, and if the military airport is relocated, it is expected to cause fatal damage due to noise pollution,” adding, “The relocation of the Gwangju military airport will cause a decline in the value of agricultural products and collapse the production base of livestock farms.”

Meanwhile, the voices of Mongtan residents demanding the immediate suspension of the Gwangju Combat Airfield relocation project?which infringes on the survival rights and pursuit of happiness of Muan residents and only fuels regional conflicts and confusion?are expected to continue for the time being.
