Performing Arts Outreach Program for Underprivileged Cultural Groups
[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Damyang-gun Cultural Foundation announced on the 29th that it successfully concluded the ‘Culture Day-N Dambitgil Life art’ held from May 29th with a performance on the 27th.
‘Dambitgil Life art’ was conducted as a visiting performance program at Damju Damidam Art District, Dambit Art Warehouse, and Menino Senior Care Center under the themes of ‘Let’s all take a walk around the neighborhood,’ ‘Everyone is culture, everyone is value,’ ‘Street where culture flows,’ and ‘Untold stories.’
By theme, performances by percussion group Eolsso, play troupe Sinmyeong, Elvis Magic, and Traditional Performance Play Research Institute, along with traditional play experiences and an exhibition of media art works by artist Lee Seong-woong, created a diverse program that received great response from people of all ages, revitalizing the local community.
In particular, ‘Street where culture flows’ and ‘Untold stories,’ held in the outdoor space of the nursing home while adhering to COVID-19 prevention guidelines, brought joy to elderly residents of local nursing care facilities and seniors targeted by community customized care projects who have difficulty enjoying cultural arts.
An elderly participant in the program said, “I was depressed and frustrated staying at home, so I am grateful to be able to participate in such a good program,” and expressed satisfaction and gratitude for the performance, saying, “I have never seen such a performance before, and it was very enjoyable and made me feel healthier.”
A representative of the Cultural Foundation said, “Some elderly people who said this was their first time attending such a performance thanked us while holding our hands, which made me realize once again what the role of a local cultural foundation should be,” and added, “Seeing the elderly who were initially unfamiliar clap their hands and smile brightly, we will continue to strive to bring happiness to the community through culture and arts.”
