Lee Jae-myung Appoints Oh Young-hoon from Lee Nak-yeon Faction as Secretary-General and Yoon Gun-young, Close Aide of Moon Jae-in, as Political Affairs Chief

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] On the 27th, Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party candidate, appointed two-term lawmaker Oh Young-hoon as Chief Secretary and first-term lawmaker Yoon Gun-young as Political Affairs Secretary. By selecting a lawmaker affiliated with the Lee Nak-yeon faction, whom he faced during the primary, and a lawmaker known as President Moon Jae-in’s ‘right-hand man,’ it appears he aimed to unify the campaign headquarters as a 'One Team.'

Chief Spokesperson Ko Yong-jin announced this during a briefing in the afternoon.

Chief Spokesperson Ko explained the appointments, saying, “Lawmaker Oh is a two-term legislator well-versed in parliamentary operations and legislation, having served as Deputy Floor Leader, Floor Spokesperson, Vice Chair, and Standing Vice Chair of the Policy Committee.” Regarding Lawmaker Yoon, he stated, “Although a first-term lawmaker, he served as Chief of the Presidential Secretariat’s National Situation Room, is well-informed on overall state affairs, and is knowledgeable about Korean Peninsula issues as a member of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee and the Intelligence Committee.”

Regarding these appointments, he added, “This is an appointment to further accelerate integration in line with the spirit of the One Team campaign headquarters,” and explained, “It is intended to create a smart campaign headquarters by strategically placing fresh and capable first- and two-term lawmakers at the forefront.”
