O Gyuseok, Gijang County Governor, "Opposing Busan Ilgwang Samdeok District Apartment Complex" 33rd Solo Protest

On the 27th at 10:50 a.m., Oh Gyu-seok, the mayor of Gijang County, held the 33rd solo protest in front of Busan City Hall opposing the approval of the housing construction project plan for the Ilgwang Samdeok district.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Trainee Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Oh Gyu-seok, Mayor of Busan Gijang County, strongly opposed the approval of the housing construction project plan in Ilgwang Samdeok District and held his 33rd solo protest in front of Busan City Hall on the 27th.

Mayor Oh opposed the approval of the traffic impact assessment for Ilgwang Samdeok District, which was passed at the Busan City Traffic Impact Assessment Review Committee held on the 29th.

Mayor Oh stated, “We absolutely cannot accept the Ilgwang Samdeok District housing construction project plan, which will exacerbate the suffering of Ilgwang New Town residents due to traffic chaos and sewage problems,” adding, “If Busan City approves the Samdeok District housing construction project plan, Park Hyung-joon, Mayor of Busan, must apologize to the residents of Gijang County.”

He continued, “The Ilgwang Samdeok District housing construction project will cause traffic congestion problems in the Ilgwang New Town area, leading to severe traffic jams,” and added, “There are various issues such as damage to forests and green spaces caused by reckless development, making Samdeok District unsuitable as a site for apartment complexes.”

Gijang County stated, “The bypass road, which has been continuously requested since the initial review, has not been reflected at all, and the developer is planning the entrance and exit within Ilgwang New Town without obtaining consent from nearby large apartment complexes,” adding, “Busan City’s approval of the traffic impact assessment review without any fundamental improvement measures is an act of disregarding the residents of Ilgwang-myeon.”

The Samdeok District housing construction project is a plan by Yurim Comprehensive Construction to change the existing Type 1 General Residential Area adjacent to Ilgwang New Town to a Type 2 General Residential Area and to include some natural green areas in the district unit plan to build a large-scale apartment complex of about 1,500 households.

In March, Yurim Comprehensive Construction submitted the housing construction project plan to Busan City.

Gijang County holds the position that the traffic improvement measures proposed in the supplementary traffic impact assessment submitted by the developer are insufficient to resolve the grievances and concerns of Ilgwang New Town residents, and therefore, the project is absolutely unacceptable.
