[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] The film Mogadishu won the Best Film Award at the 42nd Blue Dragon Film Awards. The Best Actor and Actress awards went to actors Seol Kyung-gu and Moon So-ri, respectively.
The 42nd Blue Dragon Film Awards took place on the 26th at 8:30 PM at KBS Hall in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, hosted by Kim Hye-soo and Yoo Yeon-seok.
On this day, Mogadishu (director Ryu Seung-wan, produced by Oeyunaegang and Dexter), which received the most nominations in 10 categories, won five awards including Best Film, Best Director, and Most Audience Awards.
Seol Kyung-gu, who won Best Actor for Josanjeobo, said, "If I were to receive the actor award, I came with the hope that it would be given to Byun Yo-han. I am thankful and sorry to Byun Yo-han." He added, "I thank director Lee Joon-ik and the production team. Thanks to them, we were able to make a great film despite the small budget. I also thank my comrade Song Yoon-ah."
The Best Actress award went to Moon So-ri for Three Sisters. Holding the trophy, she said, "Kim Sun-young, Jang Yoon-ju, and I all have daughters. This film carries the hope that our daughters will live confidently and comfortably beyond an era of violence, and I hoped that this message would be conveyed. The HollyBang sisters who showed a great stage earlier, having such sisters makes the world a better place," adding, "I will come back with films telling stories of even more wonderful women."
Ryu Seung-wan, who won Best Director for Mogadishu, said, "There are things one can do alone in the world and things one cannot, and making a film is something you cannot do alone. Mogadishu was especially like that. To all the filmmakers working hard somewhere, please endure a little longer. If you endure, good days will come."
He continued, "We agonized over releasing the film during the COVID-19 social distancing level 4. I thank the audience who watched the film in theaters and appreciated the images and sounds crafted by the creators. Everyone who stood with me are comrades," expressing his gratitude.
The Best Supporting Actor and Actress awards went to Kim Sun-young and Heo Jun-ho. Kim Sun-young, who won the honor for Three Sisters, said, "Thank you Moon So-ri and Jang Yoon-ju. Three Sisters is a small film but received many nominations. I am grateful." She added, "I love my mom and dad who gave birth to me and raised me with love, and my beloved daughter who is watching alone at home. I will work hard to appear in good films."
Heo Jun-ho, who won the trophy for Mogadishu, joked, "I have lived a bit. Happy moments become precious." He said, "In 2019, I met a happy project. I ran with trust in director Ryu Seung-wan. Everyone was happy, and no one got hurt during the filming of Mogadishu. I will show you good acting in the future and become an actor who never causes accidents again."
Jung Jae-kwang, who won Best New Actor for the film Not Out, said emotionally, "I think the award given to someone not famous like me means not to lose passion rather than being good. I thank the Not Out production team and my agency staff. I thank my mother watching from heaven."
The Best New Actress award went to Gong Seung-yeon for People Living Alone. On stage, she said, "Yesterday, while preparing my acceptance speech, my younger sister (Jungyeon from the group TWICE) laughed at me." She added, "I grew my dreams watching films and dreamed of the day I would come to this stage. This is a very meaningful moment. I was always sad watching year-end award ceremonies at home, so I am happy to receive this award. Thank you."
This year's Most Audience Award went to Mogadishu (director Ryu Seung-wan, produced by Oeyunaegang), which was released in July and attracted 3.61 million viewers.
