[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, which is hosting the international sports event '2023 Asian Weightlifting Championships' for the first time in history, has received the confirmation letter from the Korea Weightlifting Federation and is starting full-scale preparations for the competition.
On the 26th, Mayor Jo Gyu-il received the confirmation letter from Choi Seong-yong, president of the Korea Weightlifting Federation, at the Grand Intercontinental in Samseong-dong, Seoul. The event was also attended by Kim Taek-se, president of the Jinju City Sports Council, and Baek In-gu, president of the Jinju City Weightlifting Federation.
Mayor Jo said, "I am truly pleased to be able to host the first international competition in Jinju," and added, "I sincerely thank Choi Seong-yong, president of the Korea Weightlifting Federation, Baek In-gu, president of the Jinju City Weightlifting Federation, and other weightlifting officials who have worked hard."
Starting with the receipt of this confirmation letter, Jinju City plans to form an organizing committee in December for the successful hosting of the event and hold an inaugural ceremony.
The '2023 Asian Weightlifting Championships,' hosted by the Asian Weightlifting Federation, will be held in October 2023. It is a very important competition that grants qualification spots for the 2024 Paris Olympics, with about 2,000 athletes and officials from 47 countries overseas and about 8,000 domestic athletes and related personnel participating.
