Gwangju City Provides Additional Subsidies for 129 Electric Vehicles

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 26th that it will provide additional subsidies for 129 electric passenger cars to expand the supply of eco-friendly vehicles.

Following the support for 1,148 electric passenger cars this year, additional support was made possible by securing supplementary budget due to high public interest.

Eligibility requires applicants to be residents registered in Gwangju for more than three months as of the application date, or companies and organizations with business locations in the Gwangju area, and support is provided in order of delivery and registration.

Applications can be submitted from 4 p.m. on the day until 6 p.m. on December 10, and the program may end early if the budget is exhausted.

The electric passenger car support targets 73 models from 14 companies, and supported models can be checked on the Ministry of Environment's Zero-Emission Vehicle Integrated Homepage.

The subsidy amount ranges from 5.34 million KRW to 13 million KRW per electric passenger car.

Applications can be made by checking vehicles on the city’s website under the notices section or on the Zero-Emission Vehicle Integrated Homepage, then visiting the sales office of the electric vehicle manufacturer or dealer to sign a purchase contract, and finally applying through the purchase subsidy support system on the Zero-Emission Vehicle Integrated Homepage via the sales office.

Buyers who receive electric vehicle subsidies must comply with the mandatory operation period of two years as stipulated in Article 79-3, Paragraph 1 of the Enforcement Rules of the Air Quality Preservation Act.

Na Haecheon, head of the city's Air Quality Preservation Division, said, “Due to the high interest and participation of citizens in electric passenger cars, the related subsidies were exhausted early, resulting in a significant increase in the waiting list. Therefore, we secured this supplementary budget to hold an additional recruitment.” He added, “Even if you do not receive support this time, we ask that you participate in next year’s recruitment project, which will be conducted around the end of February.”
