Collecting Battery Status Information and Analyzing Battery Condition with Independently Developed 'BaaS AI'
Technology Development with SK Innovation Startup Nurturing Program 'Egg' Selected Companies
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] SK On is launching a 'Battery Diagnosis Service' that allows electric vehicle owners to directly check the status of their batteries.
On the 26th, SK On announced that it will launch Korea's first electric vehicle battery diagnosis pilot service in collaboration with Softberry Co., Ltd., the operator of 'EV Infra,' the electric vehicle charging application with the largest number of subscribers in Korea. 'EV Infra' provides information on most charging stations nationwide and payment services. It has already secured 200,000 subscribers, the largest scale in this field in Korea.
The battery diagnosis service measures changes in the battery under all usage environments where the electric vehicle is driven and charged. The collected data is analyzed by SK On's self-developed 'Artificial Intelligence Battery as a Service (BaaS AI)' to provide users with information on battery life status, abnormalities, and driving habits that can extend battery life.
SK On recruited participants for the battery diagnosis pilot service targeting 'EV Infra' users. Selected customers can use the SK On battery diagnosis service through a dedicated menu in the 'EV Infra' app. They receive monthly scores on driving habits that may affect their vehicle's battery and can also check suggestions for managing battery life. Additionally, service users can see what percentile their vehicle battery life ranks compared to others.
From May this year, SK On and Softberry Co., Ltd. analyzed electric vehicle charging patterns of consumers using 'EV Infra' for about six months and conducted market research including surveys to develop BaaS (Battery as a Service) that general customers can use. Softberry was selected in September this year for SK Innovation’s eco-friendly startup nurturing program, the ‘Egg Program.’ SK On plans to add more diverse BaaS models through this pilot project in the future.
Son Hyuk, Head of the E-Mobility Business Division, emphasized, "We will provide personalized battery diagnosis services by utilizing the data and analytical capabilities accumulated through researching and producing safe and excellent batteries, and contribute to expanding the BaaS ecosystem by collaborating with domestic and international partners."
