Motorola, Will It Claim the World's First 200-Megapixel Camera Phone Title?

On the 26th, IT specialized media PhoneArena and other foreign media, citing famous IT tipster Ice Universe, reported that Motorola will release a flagship smartphone 'Edge X' supporting a 200-megapixel camera in the second quarter of next year.

The 200-megapixel camera expected to be adopted by Motorola is likely to be the image sensor 'ISOCELL HP1' announced by Samsung Electronics last September. The ISOCELL HP1 is noted as the world's first 200-megapixel image sensor, using 0.64μm (micrometer) pixels, increasing the pixel count by 85% compared to the existing 108-megapixel product.

Initially, the industry expected Samsung Electronics to use this image sensor in the next-generation flagship smartphone 'Galaxy S22 Ultra,' scheduled for release early next year. However, Samsung is expected to adopt the same 108-megapixel camera as its predecessor for the S22 Ultra and equip the 200-megapixel camera starting with the 'Galaxy S23 Ultra,' anticipated to be released in 2023.

The S22 series is expected to be unveiled through an Unpacked event on February 8 next year and released on the 18th of the same month. The rear camera of the S22 Ultra is expected to include ▲108-megapixel main ▲12-megapixel ultra-wide ▲10-megapixel telephoto ▲10-megapixel periscope lenses.

Furthermore, Ice Universe predicted that following Motorola, Xiaomi will release a 200-megapixel camera smartphone in the second half of next year. Previously, Xiaomi used a 108-megapixel camera sensor even before Samsung Electronics. Xiaomi applied this camera starting with the 2019 'Mi Mix Alpha' and then the 'Mi CC9 Pro.'
