Apartment 'Wolpad' Hacking and Private Video Distribution... Residents Concerned

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] Suspicious circumstances have been discovered indicating that 'wall pads' installed inside apartments were hacked, leading to the leakage of videos containing private life, prompting the police to investigate the exact details.

According to the police on the 25th, they have recently launched a preliminary investigation into reports of videos presumed to be from wall pad hacking being posted on some foreign websites.

Wall pads are smart devices that allow remote operation of home appliances or checking who is outside. However, recently, the wall pad system was hacked by hackers, resulting in a massive leak of interior home videos captured through cameras.

The police have confirmed hacking traces in some of the approximately 700 multi-family housing units listed as hacked and are assessing the exact scale of the damage.

The Ministry of Science and ICT also recently warned of concerns about video leaks through smart home device hacking and urged home network device manufacturers, multi-family housing management offices, and users to exercise caution.
