[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] On the 25th, the Ministry of Unification emphasized that North Korea must adhere to the spirit of denuclearization agreements in relation to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)'s analysis that recent nuclear-related activities, including the operation of the Yongbyon nuclear facility, have been detected in North Korea.
A Ministry of Unification official stated during a meeting with reporters that “North Korea's nuclear activities not only violate United Nations Security Council resolutions but also contradict the multiple complete denuclearization agreements made between the North and South Korean leaders and between the North Korean and U.S. leaders, including the Singapore Joint Statement in June 2018.”
He added, “The spirit of these agreements and the intent of the UN Security Council resolutions must be respected.”
Earlier, Rafael Grossi, IAEA Director General, updated the monitoring status of North Korea's nuclear program on the 24th (local time), analyzing that new auxiliary buildings have been constructed at the Yongbyon nuclear facility site and movements have been observed at the Kangson nuclear facility and the Pyeongsan uranium mine.
The U.S.-based North Korea specialist media 38 North also reported on the same day that additional evidence of North Korea operating the 5 MW reactor at the Yongbyon nuclear facility was detected through commercial satellite imagery.
