Contributing to Enhancing Public Functions in Rural Areas and Stabilizing Farm Household Income
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Muan County, Jeollanam-do, will make the first payment of 25.2 billion KRW in basic public interest direct payments for 14,890 farms by the end of this month.
According to the county on the 25th, the public interest direct payment system, now in its second year of implementation, is a system that reorganizes the existing rice and field direct payment projects to preserve farmers' income. Payments are divided into small-scale farm direct payments and area-based direct payments according to the farmer's eligibility.
The small-scale farm direct payment is a fixed payment of 1.2 million KRW provided to those cultivating farmland of 0.1 to 0.5 hectares or less who meet certain requirements such as income, rural residence period, and farming engagement period.
The area-based direct payment is provided differentially to farmers, agricultural corporations, and field management corporations according to the support unit price for each cultivation area segment.
Muan County has been verifying eligibility for direct payments, including target farmland, farmers, and actual cultivation status, and checking compliance with requirements from the application reception starting in April until October.
County Governor Kim San said, “Considering the difficulties faced by rice-producing farms due to labor shortages in rural areas and natural disasters such as hail and heavy rain, we have advanced the timing of the public interest direct payment. We hope the direct payments will help stabilize farm income and improve farming conditions.”
Meanwhile, Muan County plans to pay direct payments next month to some farms classified for reduction due to violations of the public interest direct payment compliance requirements after going through opinion submission and verification procedures.
