Focus on Small Business Recovery Policies in the With-Corona Era

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] On the 22nd, Kim Youngsoon, a member of the Gwangju Buk-gu Council, urged the establishment of coexistence measures for neighborhood commercial districts facing difficulties due to COVID-19 during the 2021 Economic Welfare Committee administrative audit, the 23rd reported.

Councilor Kim said, "Many small business owners are struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic," and added, "As we enter the With-Corona era, policies should be prepared to help existing small business owners recover rather than forming new shopping districts."

He continued, "Buk-gu has invested hundreds of millions of won in the existing Yongbong-dong Fashion Street to develop the commercial district, but due to COVID-19, more than half of the stores are currently closed, indicating a difficult situation," and requested, "Instead of dispersing efforts by investing budgets to create new commercial districts in this situation, please prepare measures for the existing commercial districts to make a leap forward."

Additionally, Councilor Kim said, "There are many policies related to small business owners being implemented by other departments or the government, such as the 'Good Landlord Property Tax Reduction Policy' promoted by the Tax Department," and urged, "These should be compiled and actively promoted so that local small business owners are not unaware of support policies."

Meanwhile, Buk-gu enacted an ordinance on the designation of neighborhood-type shopping districts in October last year and designated four locations within the district as neighborhood-type shopping districts to support local merchants and small business owners.
