[AK Survey] 63.5% of People Aged 60 and Over Say "Power Should Change to People Power Party"


[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] The belief that there should be a regime change to the People Power Party was overwhelmingly high among those aged 60 and over (63.5%). Following this were those in their 50s (53.4%), ages 18-29 (48.4%), and those in their 30s (44.6%) in order of preference for regime change. The 40s age group showed the lowest support for regime change at 35.9%.


In the survey conducted on the 20th and 21st, overall support for a regime change to the People Power Party was 50.7%, while support for the Democratic Party's regime continuation was 34.3%. 'Other parties/independent candidates winning' and 'Don't know' responses were 8.9% and 6.1%, respectively. More men (54.4%) than women (47.1%) expressed a desire for regime change to the People Power Party. By region, support for regime change was highest in Daegu·Gyeongbuk (65.5%), followed by Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam (62.9%), Gangwon·Jeju (58.0%), Seoul (51.0%), Gyeonggi·Incheon (49.1%), Daejeon·Sejong·Chungcheong (44.2%), and Gwangju·Jeonbuk·Jeonnam (25.3%).

Regarding party support, both the Democratic Party and the People Power Party saw declines compared to the previous survey (conducted on the 6th-7th), while the proportion of non-affiliated voters rose by 0.4 percentage points (14.1% → 14.5%). During the same period, support for the People Power Party decreased by 2.1 percentage points (38.4% → 36.3%), and support for the Democratic Party fell by 1.1 percentage points (32.9% → 31.8%). Democratic Party supporters were mostly in their 40s (42.7%) and 30s (40.9%), while People Power Party supporters were dominant among those aged 60 and over (44.1%), 50s (40.0%), and 18-29 (36.4%).


When asked to evaluate President Moon Jae-in's performance, 39.7% responded 'doing well,' while 57.1% said 'not doing well,' resulting in a negative evaluation exceeding the positive by 17.4 percentage points. Compared to the previous survey, positive evaluations remained the same, while negative evaluations decreased by 0.7 percentage points.

This survey was conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting targeting voters aged 18 and over nationwide on the 20th and 21st. A total of 1,025 people responded, with an overall response rate of 7.5%. The survey method was wireless ARS using 100% mobile phone virtual numbers, and the sample was extracted with weighted values by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of the end of January 2021 from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (cell weighting). The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
