Preventing Dementia at Home! It's Valuable

Dongdaemun-gu Dementia Relief Center Produces and Operates Self-Developed Participatory Program 'Gachihaeyo' Series... Distributed as Kits with Necessary Materials and Tools, Educational Videos Accessible via QR Codes Embedded in Textbooks

Preventing Dementia at Home! It's Valuable

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The Dongdaemun-gu Dementia Safety Center (District Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) has developed and launched a series called ‘Preventing Dementia at Home! Value it, Join it’ in response to the normalization of non-face-to-face dementia prevention management due to COVID-19.

A representative from the Dongdaemun-gu Dementia Safety Center emphasized that habit formation is crucial for dementia prevention and stated that the ‘Value it’ series was developed with a focus on creating programs that can be continuously practiced.

Unlike previous online lectures that were delivered in a one-way broadcast format, the ‘Value it’ program was designed as an interactive lecture. Participants can engage directly through kits delivered to their homes, and by using the QR code embedded in the textbook, they can easily access the YouTube video lecture page. Additionally, communication is possible through the comment function, allowing participants to receive feedback from therapists on their completed works.

The ‘Value it’ series offers programs created by professional therapists in various fields, including ▲Music Therapy ‘Gachi Eumchi’ ▲Horticultural Therapy ‘Gachi Wonhae’ ▲Art Therapy ‘Gachi Geurim’ ▲Occupational Therapy ‘Gachi Puri’ ▲Exercise Therapy ‘Gachi Undong’. Materials and tools required for each video are provided as kits to the elderly participants.

Elderly residents registered at the Dementia Safety Center or those wishing to prevent dementia in the local area can inquire at the Dongdaemun-gu Dementia Safety Center.

Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “The Dongdaemun-gu Dementia Safety Center has developed a new program series to enable safer and more convenient dementia prevention and to enjoy a healthy old age in a situation where face-to-face activities have become difficult due to COVID-19.” He added, “We will do our best to improve and promote the program so that the ‘Value it’ program can be utilized throughout Seoul in the future.”
